The rarest M&M color is brown

You wouldn't think that the color that most resembles chocolate would be the rarest color in your pack of chocolate M&Ms but that is exactly what statistician Rick Wicklin found in 2017. The original colors introduced back in 1941 were red, yellow, violet, green and brown but today you will find the colors to be blue, orange, green, yellow, red and brown. In 2008, the Mars' website listed the color distribution in a pack of M&Ms to be 30% brown, 20% yellow, 20% red, 10% orange, 10% green and 10% blue but one day that distribution mysteriously vanished from the website so a statistician named Rick Wicklin set out to determine the distribution himself. For weeks, he took two took two scoops of M&M's from a large jar in his office's break room and began counting them up. From a total of 712 M&M's, Rick determined the color breakdown was now 19.5% green, 18.7% orange, 18.7% blue, 15.1% red, 14.5% yellow, and 13.5% brown thus making brown the rarest color M&M. To validate his results, he contacted the Mars company who were gracious enough to send over their data which confirmed that brown was actually the rarest colored M&M.
