The Golden Gate Bridge spans more than a mile in San Francisco, California

The Golden Gate Bridge is a world famous and iconic landmark. Its located in San Francisco, California and spans almost two miles across the narrow channel where San Francisco Bay opens into the Pacific Ocean, otherwise known as the "Golden Gate". The Golden Gate Bridge was designed by engineer Joseph Strauss in 1917 and opened in 1937, after 4 years of construction. It has since been named as one of the Wonders of the Modern World by the American Society of Civil Engineers.
