Tragedy struck on July 23, 1993. Michael Jordan's father James was returning home from a funeral when he pulled over on US Highway 74 to take a nap. Two young men, Daniel Andre Green and Larry Martin Demery, spotted the car and came over to carjack it. They stole the car after shooting James and left him in a swamp where his body was found around 2 weeks later. The body was only identified as Michael Jordan's father 10 days later due to dental records. Michael Jordan famously retired from Basketball for the first time just 2 months later.
