A jump ball at center court used to take place after every made basket in basketball

While basketball has grown into a worldwide phenomenon, it has quite humble beginnings and the rules have changed a lot to make it more fan-friendly. When basketball was first played, before the National Basketball Association was even conceived, there was a jump ball at center court after every made basket. This massively benefitted the team with the taller player, as they could just score, win the jump ball, and then score again. Rinse and repeat. Since then, the rules have changed so that opposing players get to take the ball out of bounds after their opponent scores.
