You are 10 times more likely to get bitten by a person in New York as you are to get bitten by a shark in the ocean

Alright, so that may not be entirely true in terms of probability but the fact remains that each year there are 10 times more people bitten by other people in New York then there are people bitten by a shark around the world. This is actually pretty good news because it means that becoming a shark's next snack remains incredibly rare. In the United States, the probability that you would be attacked by a shark is just 1 in 11.5 million and the chance that the attack would be fatal is just 1 in 264 million.
