Surprisingly enough, space actually has a smell to it. According to various astronauts and cosmonauts - the Russian version of astronauts - space smells like a combination of diesel fumes, gunpowder, and BBQ. Now, we know you are wondering how they smell anything when they cannot take their helmets off without immediately dying. There are some traces of the smell left over after they return into the space shuttle after a space walk, and those smells are a weaker version of what actual space would smell like.
