Neil Armstrong's astronaut application arrived a week past the submission deadline

Everyone needs a friend like Dick. Dick Day was a flight simulator expert working at NASA when he noticed that his friend's application arrived a week after the June 1, 1962 submission deadline. He quietly slipped the application in with the rest of the applicants and helped get his friend, Neil Amrstrong, into NASA and eventually make history as the first man to walk on the moon.
