The phenomenon known as “triple point” is where water both boils and freezes at the same time. It is called triple point because it is the perfect pressure and temperature to allow water to exist in all three states of matter in equilibrium and at the same time. Triple point occurs for water at the temperature of 273.16 degrees Kelvin, which is 0 degrees Celsius. A small amount of water both evaporates and freezes, while the majority stays in liquid form.
