Avocados never ripen when on their trees, making them the perfect storage spot

While avocados appear to go from being rock hard to uneatable mush in the matter of days after being purchased, they actually never ripen while still attached to their trees. This makes avocado trees the perfect spot for farmers to store their avocado harvests, simply picking them right before selling them. They can leave ready avocados on their trees for around seven months before eventually being forced to pick them as the avocados will drop on their own.
