Models were not always used to showcase clothes by fashion companies

While things like New York Fashion Week are common knowledge and practice nowadays, models were not always the best option to showcase clothes and looks. Up until the 1800s, inanimate dolls were used to show off the new fashion. There are a few reasons for this. For one, people thought it was easier to work with dolls than with actual human beings. Another reason for this is that modeling and fashion were not massive industries at that point, which led to less money for designers. Models were too expensive at that point in history.
