But the famous whoosh did not come from the blend alone. To give the lightsaber movement, Burtt played the recorded hum through a speaker and swung a microphone past it. This is why the lightsaber sound still works so well. It is not a generic laser blast or a purely synthetic effect; it has texture from real machines.
