While we might have rap battles when we need to diss someone in the modern era, that never used to be the case. Instead, “flyting” was used to diss an opponent in the Medieval Ages. Beginning in around 1200 BC, people would get into flyting matches, where they would diss one another while other people watched to see who won. It was a battle of verbal and mental wits instead of a physical altercation, which also happened all the time back then.
