The top of the Empire State Building was built specifically for blimps

While fidget spinners and SUPREME shirts may seem like dumb fads, perhaps no fad will ever match the absurdity and danger of the blimp. The blimp was heralded as the future of transportation in the early 20th century, and after all, what was there not to like about them? After all, they were incredibly slow-moving, floated hundreds of feet in the air, and filled with highly flammable gas. Also, they were controlled by an open flame. What could go wrong? In fact, the belief that they were going to be the future of transportation was so commonly held that the top of the Empire State building was originally built to anchor blimps.
