Nintendo is one of the biggest names in video games today and has basically become synonymous with the meaning of the industry. However, the company started out without video games at all, actually making cards for the first part of the company’s life. Nintendo was first born in 1889, well before anything close to a modern video game was born. The founder, Fusajiro Yamauchi, started the business by selling hand-painted trading cards, which grew into the most popular brand in Japan. It was not until 1975 that Nintendo started to work with video games.
