Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, the original inventors of the now world-famous ice-cream brand Ben & Jerry’s, originally knew nothing about ice cream other than the fact that they wanted to make and sell it. They took a $5 correspondence course on the making of ice cream that was offered by Penn State, and the rest is history. The company was valued at around $500 million in 2021, so it is safe to say that the $5 investment paid off.
