The U.S government paid $16 million for the film of JFK's assassination

You have probably seen it, the grainy film footage of JFK being shot by a high-caliber rifle while waving to a crowd from the open top of his car. Well, that family originally belonged to the Zapruder family, who recorded the shooting by accident while taking in the Presidential motorcade. The US government ended up paying the Zapruder family $16 million in 1999 for the official rights to the footage, as well as taking the original film from the family.
