The act of acquiring books and not reading them is known as Tsundoku

Either someone you know or yourself is a book hoarder. Every few weeks you go down to the local book store and just can’t help yourself - all the books are too cool and interesting looking to pass up, so you grab a few more, promising yourself that you will read them. You never actually end up reading them, you just collect them, and there is a word for that. That word is “tsundoku”, and it refers to constantly buying reading materials and not actually reading them.
