While she is known across the world as one of the greatest writers and poets of all time, Maya Angelou also has another claim to fame in the history books - she was the first female black streetcar conductor in San Francisco, ever. She accomplished the feat as a teenager, well before she made a name for herself writing such famous poetry as “I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings” and “The Heart of a Woman”.
