A leopard's fur pattern is used as camouflage as they move through their environment

That distinctive and beautiful fur pattern isn't just for looks after all. Leopard's use their fur to camouflage themselves as they run and hunt. The visible spots are actually called "rosettes" due to the fact that they look like the shape of a rose. Black panthers are actually black leopards whose spots are simply hard to see because they are all black and blend in with the rest of their body.
