The Humane Society of Missouri uses kids to comfort anxious dogs by reading to them

The Humane Society of Missouri has a program called “Shelter Buddies Reading”. The program uses kids - who are volunteers at the humane society - to read to anxious dogs and puppies. The dogs are naturally less nervous around smaller and less threatening humans, and it is a great stepping stone for them to calming down around adults as well. The children are not put in harm’s way with skittish dogs however, and sit outside of the kennel while reading to the dogs.
