There is a reason that only male turkeys are known as “gobblers” - they’re the only ones who gobble! Male turkeys gobble as a way to attract females during mating season, with the louder and prouder gobbles winning over the more meek noises on unworthy competitors. Female turkeys also make unique noises, although those sound more like chirps and clucks than the distinctive male turkey gobble. Male turkeys are also the only ones with large, prominent tails used to attract mates.
