Hummingbirds are the only birds capable of flying backwards

While almost all birds - not including penguins and chickens - can fly, there is only one type of bird that can fly backwards - the hummingbird. That is right, the hummingbird is the only bird that people have ever witnessed flying backwards. The hummingbird is also the only bird that can fly upside down. Think of hummingbirds as the helicopters of birds - they can fly forwards, backwards, upside down, and even remain stationary while flying, which most other birds cannot do.
